ISO22000
ISO 22000 FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM STANDARD
ISO 22000 is an internationally recognized standard developed by food industry experts that includes all related institutions such as equipment, packaging materials, cleaning agents, additives and component manufacturers within the food chain. The aim of this standard is to align the needs of food safety management with the food supply chain. It is envisaged that the ISO 22000 standard will replace the HACCP standard published by various countries and will be a standard that will be accepted worldwide like the ISO 9001 standard.
In addition to food manufacturers, the ISO 22000 certificate can also be used by suppliers of materials, equipment, chemicals, and food industry suppliers that provide storage and transportation services, including the following sectors: BRC, EFSIS, IFS.
- Raw material suppliers
- Animal feed manufacturers
- Food transport companies
- Food contact packaging manufacturers
- Food warehouses
- Food machinery manufacturers
- Cleaning chemical manufacturers for the food industry
The main purpose of the ISO 22000:2005 standard, prepared by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and published in September 2005, is to provide the consumer with the safety of healthy produced food and to continuously maintain and improve this ability. It is the first international standard published as a 'Food Safety Management System'.
TS EN ISO 22000:2005 standard 'Food Safety Management Systems - Requirements for All Organizations in the Food Chain' has been published and editorial corrections on the standard are ongoing. With the publication of this standard, TS 13001 - HACCP standard has been cancelled and repealed.

ISO 22000:2018 PUBLISHED!
ISO 22000, the food safety management system standard, was revised after a long period of work. The ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety Management System Standard, which was accepted and published by ISO (International Standards Organization) on 18.06.2018, replaced ISO 22000:2005.
Because it has been prepared in accordance with the High Level Structure, the ISO 22000:2018 standard can be easily harmonized with other management system standards, thus saving time and efficiency for implementing organizations.
A period of 3 years has been determined for organizations with ISO 22000:2005 certification to complete the transition, starting from the publication date of the standard (18.06.2018). At the end of this period, ISO 22000:2005 certificates will lose their validity.
The standard also covers the generally accepted key components that ensure food safety throughout the food chain, such as:
- Interactive communication
- System administration
- Control of food safety hazards with prerequisite programs and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) plans
- Continuous development and updating of the food safety management system
